jacob truly is a success story that proved expectations wrong. we are blessed to have him in our group and love him dearly! we all already  know this, but jacob’s insight brings us a perspective and a wisdom that none of us can come close to in our experience. we are very lucky to have him with us, and know that the Lord will use him greatly to help keep us grounded and connected to our purpose.

also he’s famous! WOO JACOB!

window for VOCM

do you guys think we could realistically come up with the money to donate for this???

http://www.new.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=36208924782&ref=nf

megan voos, our volunteer coordinator down at Voice of Calvary Ministries, is seeking donations for groups to sponsor replacing a window in the study center. there are 47 windows at $525 apiece. each group that sponsors one gets a plaque by it with their name on it. ooooooooh!

i think, depending on how many people give, it would come out to like $45 a person. giving that we are mostly post-ave and the ave may choose to not continue the trips to VOCM… i think it’d be cool for our milwaukee group to continue to show VOCM that we are in partnership and brotherhood with them.

we can talk this weekend :o ) SO EXCITED to go camping with you lovelies!

Milwaukee Homicides are down…

Hey guys, I just saw this article on JSOnline. Thought it was pretty good news to hear. Think that one of the reasons that crime could be down is because more people are praying? When we were down in Jackson we heard powerful testimony to the power of prayer. Let us continue to be a people of prayer, and look for God to move in the city and bring about real social change.

District 5 Crime Reduction Meeting

District Five August Crime Reduction Meeting

The District Five crime reduction meeting will be held on Thursday, August 7

th, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fifth District Station 2920 N. 4th Street (4th and Locust). A representative from the District Attorneys office assigned to the Children’s Court will be present to answer questions regarding the Juvenile Justice System.

Anyone want to go to this before our meeting next Thursday? I’m going. We can learn about what the police are doing in the neighborhood (I believe District 5 covers all of us – Borchert Field, Riverwest, and the East Side) and who is collaborating with them and attending these meetings. Who wants to bike?

VOCM in the news

Friends:

Below is a link to a local Jackson news station – they covered our Youth Rally on Saturday and I would love to share the experience with y’all.  This was our second event at Claiborne Park this summer and we couldn’t have been happier with the turnout; Megan said we fed at least 150 neighborhood folk.  I’m excited to come home and share everything I’m learning!

Enjoy:

community warehouse article

just wanted to share a fun victory we had at the Community Warehouse – a Christian non-profit organization on the South Side of Milwaukee providing discounted new home improvement materials to the city… where myself, Alan, Jacob, and Michael work. the Journal Sentinel newspaper did an article on us! hopefully this will get the word out so that more people who need it can take advantage of our resources. happy reading!

Neighborhood Block Party(Celebration for Jesus)

Here is the information for everybody regarding the block party that Andrea shared about tonight:

There is a neighborhood block party on Saturday, June 21st from 11AM—4PM. It is sponsored by the Word is God Worship Center on 3320 W Vliet St here in Milwaukee. The Pastor there is Lamar Davis. I found a phone number for them of 414.342.1318. I couldn’t find a website for them. It would be great if anybody can make it to meet more people in our city with a passion for the community!
